Why You Should Try A Sunless Spray Tan

Who doesn't love having bronze looking skin? I know I do... especially during happy summer days! Therefore, I am going to point out reasons why you should try a sunless spray tan

Sunless Tanning vs. Sun Tanning

Don't get me wrong, you can easily go sun tanning effortlessly by just laying on a beach towel at the beach. On top of that, sun tanning can last for months depending on an individual's natural skin tone which urges people to want to soak up in the sun even more. At the same time, is sun tanning really worth it? I personally don't think so... unless you are using high SPF sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful uv rays which ultimately means you will get less tan which is why so many people avoid putting it on in the first place. When you are not protecting your skin from the harmful uv rays, there will be serious consequences including accelerating aging, skin damage, eye damage and  higher chance of developing cancer. In fact, according to the American Cancer Society, more than 3.5 million people are diagnosed with non melanoma skin cancer in America along with 70,000 people diagnosed with melanoma (the deadliest type of skin cancer). On the other hand, The FDA considered sunless tanning safe to use but advises not to inhale or apply the tanner near the eyes, nose or mouth. Even though sunless tanning takes more work and lasts a lot shorter, you can be worry free about exposing your skin to uv rays. With that in mind, if you want a safe yet quick way to get bronzy skin, try a sunless tanning spray!

I typically don't go to salons to get a tanning spray. Instead, I use an organic at-home sunless tanning spray by Golden Star Beauty for a fraction of the price. I do have to reaaply this tanning oil a few times to achieve a darker skin tone but I do not mind because this self tanner is organic and the ingredients are gentle. If you are having trouble applying the tanning oil or have questions you can contact me. You can read some helpful tips in the photos below regarding prepping and applying the sunless tanning spray. Seriously, the more you use self tanners, the easier it gets and the more you get use to applying it correctly to avoid patchiness or an orangey tone.

Tanning causes accelerating skin aging by decreasing skin collagen and
elasticityleading to wrinkles and loose skin.

Ways to Avoid Dreading Going to the Dentist

Undoubtedly, countless people dread going to the dentist because they want to avoid getting scolded at by their dentist or hygienist. Therefore, I am going to tell you my personal ways to avoid dreading going to the dentist.
  • Select the right toothpaste
    • You want to always use a dental approved toothpaste that contains fluoride. Also, it is smart to use a complete protection toothpaste to help prevent cavities, plaque and gingivitis. I personally like to use Sensodyne Complete Protection because it offers full protection plus it is suitable for sensitive teeth (which I have).
  • Electric toothbrush
    • Hands down, I have found that using an electric toothbrush is the easiest and best way to clean my teeth. Studies have even shown that electric toothbrushes are more effective at removing plaque than a normal toothbrush. I personally use Sterline Sonic Power electric rechargeable toothbrush with UV sanitizer . I find it awesome how this electric toothbrush comes with a UV sanitizer to clean the toothbrush. Also, I love how this has a built-in timer for 2 minutes to ensure you get 2 minutes of brushing. This toothbrush also has 3 modes (clean, soft, whitening and massage) so you cane easily switch it to what style of brushing you prefer to do.
  • Don't forget to floss
    • If you are one of the people (like me) who find regular flossing a tad bit of a hassle, you can sometimes use a water flosser instead. Now, you do not want to necessarily replace regular flossing with water flossing because regular flossing is indeed more effective at removing plaque. I personally like to use Sterline water flosser. I love using this because it's very easy to use and you can adjust the water speed and pressure to personal preference. When using the water flosser, you want to make sure you are directing the water to each directed teeth to achieve best results.
  • Chew gum after snacking
    • I always have xylitol gum in my messy bag. I like having xylitol gum for when I eat or snack while I am out and chew two pieces of gum afterwards to prevent food from sticking to my teeth. Xylitol gum in fact is wonderful in preventing tooth decay and is recommended by dentists and hygienist. I like to use Xyloburst gum that can found in any Sprouts.
  • Use good technique and frequency
    • Above all, brushing at least twice a day and regular flossing is a must to maintain dental health. Ensure each session is 2 minutes long and each area of your mouth is getting the same amount of brushing.

Ultimately, there is no need to dread or fear the dentist as long as you take care of your teeth!

Stimulate Collagen and Elastin in Your Skin

As we get older, we are wondering more on how to stimulate collagen and elastin in our skin. One way to stimulate collagen and elastin in your skin is by microneedling using a derma roller. Studies have shown that derma rollers helps in preventing and treating skin aging by cell regeneration. I was lucky enough to collaborate with Derma Rollers System and try out their Derma Roller and DermaCell enriched collagen cream. The derma roller comes in 5 different sizes based on personal needs that is listed in the chart below. I am using the 1.0mm derma roller that helps with everything except hair regrowth and eye treatment. I have to admit, the derma roller does hurt a bit but it is completely normal because it is giving your skin tiny cuts to allow cell regeneration. I prefer to use the derma roller at night because the skin is more sensitive to the sun after the treatment. After using the derma roller, I like to apply either a moisturizer or a collagen cream. All in all, I have been using it for a few weeks now and absolutely love it thus far. Though, I will give you guys an update in a few months on the results!

Why Use A Derma Roller?
  • Increase cell growth
  • Helps prevent/ decrease fine lines & wrinkles
  • Diminishes Scars, Hyper-pigmentation & Stretch Marks
  • Decreases Pore Size
  • Hair Regrowth

Did you know that derma rolling can increase serum absorption by as much as 1,000 times?
That means that your moisturizer will be absorbed at a much greater amount with the use of a derma roller. Wow!

Helpful Tips
  • Make sure your hands and derma roller is completely clean before using it.
  • Roll the derma roller over your desired area gently: 4 times vertically, 4 times horizontally, 4 times diagonally

  • After treatment, disinfect the derma roller with a glass half full of hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol for about 30 minutes.
  • Do not use the derma roller on your eyelids or lips.
  • I highly advise to use the derma roller during the evening or nighttime so your skin is not  being exposed to the sun soon after. If done during the daytime, ensure you apply sunscreen lotion to the area you treated (Even though you should always apply sunscreen lotion regardless when out in the sun!😊)
  • Use the 0.5 mm derma roller only once a day with no more than 5 days a week. On the other hands, use the 1.0 mm once every 3 to 4 weeks.

Chew Gum with Xylitol to Improve Dental Health

Begin to chew gum with xylitol to improve dental health. Xylitol is a natural sweetener that claims to decrease tooth decay and improve dental health. In particular, studies have shown that xylitol increases production of saliva, sustains a neutral pH level in mouth and prevents food from sticking to teeth. If you weren't aware, almost all prominent gum brands that are sugar-free contain artificial sweeteners such as aspartame. Unfortunately, some studies claim that aspartame are linked to heart attack, obesity, cancer and diabetes. Meanwhile, gums that are not sugar-free can result in waist increase and tooth decay. That being said, I have been favoring sugar-free gum that contains xylitol instead of gum that contains aspartame or sugar. I partnered with XyloBurst and was able to try out some of their delicious sugar-free xylitol products that does not contain aspartame. I tried out their peppermint, spearmint, cinnamon and fruit flavor gum along with their lollipops and berry mints. I have to say that I am seriously addicted to the berry mints and cannot stop once I put one in my mouth. Ultimately, all of these XyloBurst's sweets taste so yummy and are certainly my new found favorite! You can easily find XyloBurst's gum online or at any Sprouts! I personally love chewing two pieces of gum after eating a meal to prevent food from sticking to my teeth... Who knew that chewing certain types of gum can actually help prevent tooth decay and tartar build up!

Why XyloBurst?
  • Dentist/ Hygienest recommended
  • Naturally sweetened with xylitol
  • Does NOT contain aspartame
  • Non-GMO
  • Gluten Free
Sugar free means happy teeth!

Say No to Plastic Bags

Just Say No To Plastic Bags!
Did you know that about 100 billion plastic bags are being discarded by Americans yearly? Did you also know that it takes about 1,000 years for a plastic bag to decompose? Unfortunately, plastic bags end up in oceans, lakes and landfills leaving it a disaster for wildlife. Plastic bags are a critical hazard to the environment that are being excessively used and discarded. Sadly, stores give out endless amounts of plastic bags to customers for free

I was ecstatic when I found out late last year that people in California voted to ban plastic bags in stores statewide. I was actually one of many who voted to play a part in banning plastic bags! If you forget your reusable bag, stores in California also gives you an option to purchase a reusable bag for about 10 cents. Ecologically, banning plastic bag statewide is a wonderful thing! Even if you do not live in California, you can choose to stop using plastic bags and start using reusable bags to play a part in helping the environment! Try to also bring awareness to those around you about the harmful effects of plastic bags.

I was so happy to team up with Esse and to receive a premium reusable grocery bag set! The set includes three reusable bags with a carrying tote that are made from recycled water bottles. I especially love how durable these bags are compared to normal reusable bags since they can hold up to 35 lbs! I also found it convenient how these bags fold up and fit in the small carrying tote it comes with. Lets all try to be part of the solution rather than be the problem!

Esse did provide me a sample of the reusable bag set. Nonetheless, I only recommend items that I use personally and honestly like.

Different Skin Types

As many of you know, there are different skin types. Different skin types calls for different types of facial products. Undoubtedly, it is imperative to identify your skin type in order to moisturizer accordingly.

Dry Skin:
Symptoms: Feeling of tightness and is often red, itchy and flaky.
Suitable Moisturizers: Look for cream moisturizers with a higher oil and wax content to help replenish the dehydration within your skin.

Oily Skin:
Symptoms: Shiny face soon after cleansing and has large pores.
Suitable Moisturizer: Look for oil-free lotion moisturizers that have a water-like texture to prevent excess sebum buildup and breakouts. Now if you are prone to breakouts. you would want to aim for non-comedogenic moisturizers to prevent clogging your pores.
Avoid Moisturizers: Stay away from moisturizers that contain glycerin, aloe and hyaluronic because they can actually trap oils in your pores.

Combination Skin:
Symptoms: Shiny face in the t-zone (forehead, nose and chin.) Whereas, drier face on the cheeks.
Suitable Moisturizer: You would like to look for gels or lotions. You can also use an oil-free moisturizer on your t-zone and a heavier moisturizer on your cheeks.

Normal Skin:
Symptoms: No part of the face is shiny or feels irrated.
Suitable Moisturzer: Luckily, you have a wider selection of moisturizers you can use since your face is not too dry or oily. However, you would still want to primarily use lightweight moisturizers to maintain your natural skin balance.

Glowing Skin Is Always In

I personally have a combination skin type and tend to use two different moisturizers for different areas of my face. In particular, I came across these two moisturizers, Retinol Moisturizer and Vitamin C Moisturizer by InstaNatural. I like to use the retinol moisturizer on my t-zone and the vitamin c moisturizer on my cheeks. I have found that both of these moisturizers hydrates my skin well and suits all areas of my face. I do feel that these moisturizers can be used on all skin types. Although, I do not recommend the retinol moisturizer for sensitive skin because the retinol may cause irritation. All in all, it is definitely worth taking the time to find the perfect match in order to prevent unwanted premature aging.

InstaNatural did provide me a sample of both of the moisturizers. Nonetheless, I only recommend items that I use personally and honestly like.

Time is of the Essence

Time is of the essence since it holds so much value. I don't know about you but I feel like the older I get, the quicker time goes. Now that it is a new year, I am working on being more mindful. I have been working on bringing awareness to daily activities that I tend to do in autopilot because I unfortunately miss out on the present moment. I know I am guilty of not being mindful at times... In all honesty, I could not tell you how many times I could not remember where I placed my car keys or headphones because I was in my head at the time I placed them down. With that in mind, being mindful in the present moment is so essential since time is limited. Therefore, there is not a moment in time when it should not be valued because you can never reclaim that past moment.

Don't let time slip away... Focus on being conscious of every little detail that is occurring in that moment.

"Time is free, but it's priceless. You can't own it, but you can use it. You can't keep it, but you can spend it. Once you've lost it you can never get it back." -Harvey MacKay

I love wearing watches to help me keep track of time. I have been crushing on natural wood watches for quite some time now. I am wearing a beautiful maplewood watch from Cayman Watches. I love how beautifully the rose gold face accents the light maplewood. Cayman Watches also has another wood watch available that is zebrawood with an eye catching teal face. Wonderfully, Cayman Watches gives back and donates a portion of their sales to the United Nations World Food Programme. All in all, this is certainly one of my favorite watches to wear right now!
